This fine colonial period Windsor chair was made between 1790 and 1810 in Connecticut. It retains a wonderful, early-19th century, black paint surface with sophisticated gilt decoration over the original green. This chair has an overall height of 37.75" and a seat height of 17". The seat is 15.75" wide and 15.5" deep. The beautifully decorated fan is 19.5" wide and features decorative leaf carving on the ears. Most 18th century Windsor chairs from Connecticut had ash crest rails, hickory or ash back posts, hickory spindles, pine seats, and maple stretchers and legs. The sides of the seats were heavily chamfered, the back post had long tapers, and there was no turning on the legs just before they entered the seat. As seen in the photos, this chair has all the characteristics of a Connecticut Windsor. As a reference, an almost identical Connecticut Windsor chair is pictured and described in Charles Santore's "Windsor Style in America" book, Volume II, page 56.Free pick-up of this item is always welcome. If the chair needs to be shipped, I will pack and ship it anywhere in the continental US for $125.
