A Very Rare Original Watercolour by the esteemed artist Katharine Jowett depicting The Temple of Heaven. I don't think that this watercolour was finished as it lacks the final detail but it still displays well. This piece is not signed or initialled but I guarantee this painting is by Katharine Jowett The painting is on quality watercolour paper mounted onto sturdy card. The mount has become detached -please see the photographs. Where the mount was glued to the watercolour there are some rough edges and pieces missing to the edge of the watercolour paper these can best be seen in photograph 3 The subject matter evokes feelings of a long ago past, there is a simplicity to the style and subject matter Katharine Jowett was painting in the Peking/ Beijing area during the late 1920's and early 1930's. Her painting and prints were very very popular amongst the upper class Chinese and the Western population. Chairman Mao himself had a set of prints in his office. The style that Jowett painted in is almost impressionistic in style. Dimensions without the mount is length approx 15 1/2 inches - Width approx 12 3/4 inches. Dimensions with the mount is length approx 21 inches - Width 17 inches.
